This beautiful vintage Turkmen Chyrpy is brought from Iran and is a handcrafted and embroidered mantle worn by Tekke Turkmen women. It is used as a piece of the wedding outfit.
We found this quote about the coloring: "The mantles of young women have a black ground, of middle aged women a yellow ground and women over sixty a white ground."
So this one was probably worn by a young woman.

The inside has a beautiful lining in blue flower print and a bias stripe brim. The revetment at the neck and breast part has a red flower print.

This Chyrpy would make a great wall-piece in your living or bed room. The detailing is excellent. An absolute eye-catcher!

The coat is in mint condition.

The Turkmen have traditionally been a nomadic people that are found all over Central Asia. The country of Turkmenistan is much more secular than the diaspora found in neighboring countries, although many groups mix Islam with animism. Known for their carpets, gorgeous jewelry, embroidery and other traditional craft skills, each sub-group has their own styles of embroidery and other defining characteristics.
